MTV/Airwaves – Kick Up a Gear

This ‘Kick Up a Gear’ commercial was produced for Wrigley’s Airwaves and MTV Base. It was a call to enter for the Kick Up a Gear Challenge.

The idea behind this call to entries is that MTV wanted everyday, interesting characters to tell us their fears and then face them. So in 30 seconds we thought this was the best was to do it.

We knew that the most punch we could get out of this concept would be to do it all in one shot. This way the location and character feel real, and then the jump at the end has a lot more impact too. We didn’t want to reveal the rooftop, helmet, or parachute backpack for the first half of the spot, because it was all about getting to know this character. This way the viewer was not thinking about what was going to happen, they are just listening to the guy talking to them.

We used an innovative digital camera option. The SI2k, which records a 1920/1280 HD image, using 16mm film lenses and recording straight to a laptop/hard drive.

Thanks to Man Make Fire , we have Robocalypse: The making of the ‘Paranoia’ music video. The documentary that reveals behind the scenes view of that sad, sad day. The controversy exposing the android activity that caused the video never to be released.

Mama Know Nothing – Paranoia (music video)

This is our latest music video, Paranoia, which we produced for Mama Know Nothing. The concept/setting is roughly based on the novel Drought.

View the making of Robocalypse, for an intriguing look into the year long process of getting the music video completed and released.

The entire video was filmed in a very rushed day and a half.
To achieve this raw film feel, we shot 35mm, but exposed the film in quarters, giving us four separate pictures running on the same filmstrip. In Telecine we then zoomed into each quarter at a time, grading and playing them out. This produced a grainier, less sharp image, where light and images spilled into each other, giving us flares and double exposed sections of the frame.

The Lambda Child – Trailer/Promo

We made this 4 min trailer/short on completion of ‘The Lamdba Child’ feature script. We wanted it to covey the mood and style of the feature film, to help us raise talent, interest and funding for the feature film.

We shot for 9 days over 13 locations to create this trailer. There isn’t really any extra footage that didn’t make it into the cut. It was planned pretty much shot for shot as it appears in the final version.
